stretching oneself
July 17, 2007 by anniebananie
I was reading Sheri’s blog yesterday regarding teh Q2/Q3 challenge, and decided that I need to stretch myself. I am going to step out of my comfort zone and knit socks for this challenge. I think I am going to knit one of the Cookie A patterns, and I need some advice.
Here are my favorites:
- Thelonius - It’s a beautiful, graceful pattern; however, techniques include chart reading, which I have never done.
- Mona Sock - Again, it’s a beautiful pattern. This pattern’s techniques not only include chart reading but also twisted stitches.
- Flicker - same as Mona Sock.
I want to stretch myself, but not make myself crazy. So, I’m asking for advice and opinions. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts. Have you ever knit any of them? If so, what is really super difficult? I’ve only been knitting a year or so, and have done socks before - my hardest was the Thuja sock (see In Progress).
Any advice, good or bad, or other pattern suggestions, would be appreciated.
Also, what are some good yarn choices for these patterns?

I’m doing Flicker now. I love it. I’m almost done. But I’ll not kid you, you really have to pay attention to what’s going on. If you’ve not done a chart or any sort of lace pattern before, you may want to hold off until you do.
Not impossible, but I wouldn’t want you throwing it across the room in disgust, either.
